WEBB — Cathryn Parkinson Maxwell, long-time former resident of Webb, passed away in Ruston, La. on Thursday, July 5.
Memorial services in Ruston were held at Trinity United Methodist Church at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 8, followed by visitation at the church. Funeral services were 11 a.m. at the Webb Baptist Church in Webb on Monday, July 9. Following the service, friends were invited to join the family for lunch and a time of fellowship and celebration of Cathryn’s life. Internment and graveside services were at Webb-Sumner cemetery at 2 p.m.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H. D. (Hub) Maxwell of Webb in 2001.
Born in Holmes County, Mississippi on Dec. 31, 1921, she attended Durant High School, graduating at the age of 16. Following attendance at Holmes Junior College she enrolled at Mississippi State College for Women, graduating in 1942 with a degree in education. Following several years of teaching, she and her husband moved to Webb in 1950 where they owned a Western Auto associate store. Active in the community and church for over 6 decades, she was a constant presence in Webb and the surrounding communities in the Mississippi Delta prior to moving to Ruston to be near two of her four children.
Cathryn is survived by her children, Dabney Maxwell (Cindy) of Ruston, Herris Maxwell (Donna) of Auburn, Ala., Melinda Maxwell of Ruston, John Andrew Maxwell of Palm Springs, Calif., her sister Jane Parkinson Smith (Holt) of Lexington, 3 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
